Product Description

This is a true story, about the "journey to school" of primary school children in a village called Bario, in Northern Sarawak in the 1950s. It was during the era of British colonial rule, and there were not many houses in the longhouse settlements, so the boarding school was built within several longhouses. At that time, there were no roads or cars, so many children had to walk to school; and the boarding was free. Throughout their six years of primary school, each student traveled up to 100,000 kilometers on foot... They walked on narrow paths through the tropical rainforest, without clothes, and their only cover was a cloth called "Cawat" to protect their modesty...
