Ise was born in 1972 in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia. He is a conceptual artist whose work in based on his personal experience of urban communities and their culture. Ise's interactive works celebrate his introduction to, and dialogue with, different cultures. He also works with comic narratives and his collection of popular material and is a co-founder of sentAp!, and art journal published quarterly in Malaysia.
Ise received a Bachelor of Arts from Mara University of Technology in 1997. He has taken part in a residency through the Artspace Studio Residency programme in Sydney (2006), and received a grant from the Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur (2007). He held his first solo exhibition at the A4 Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, Sydney, in 2006. He has taken part in the Istanbul Biennial (with Indonesian collaborative group ruangrupa) in 2005, the Jakarta Biennale in 2009, and the Singapore Biennale in 2011.
The Langkasuka Cookbook was commissioned for 'The 7th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art' (APT7), held at the Queensland Art Gallery I Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane, 8 December 2012-14 April 2013.
